A thermo-former of tight tolerance polycarbonate parts needed consistent shrinkage in both the extrusion direction and the cross direction in order to accurately form parts. They had been experiencing shrinkage in the range of 0% to 8% from polycarbonate purchased from distribution. To account for the wide range of shrinkage, oversized sheets had to be purchased which led to increased scrap rates and lower profitability.
HighLine was able to custom produce sheet with a shrinkage specification of 0% to 2% with a plan to reduce this specification to 0% to 1% in the future. This improvement led to significant cost savings for the customer.
