We recently wrote a post about how our welding grade polycarbonate was designed to meet ISO.25980 for shielding of robotic welding enclosures. In the post we discussed that we have two products, a red sheet and a green sheet. The red is a welding shade 4 and the green is a welding shade 8. This post gives more details on the welding grade transmission at different wavelengths.
Light transmission curves
Customers have asked us to provide data for the welding grade transmission, so we produced a graph showing the transmission across wavelengths from 200nm to 2,500nm. The graph is below.
You can see that the green has a much lower transmission (and hence a higher welding shade number) and is therefore a much darker product. Both grades meet the specification ISO.25980. The amount of welding light to be removed and the aesthetic appearance will determine whether the red or green product should be selected.
We are aware that some customers would prefer a bronze or a blue color. These colors are in development but are not available at this time. We are likely to complete the development of the bronze color first.
Product availability
HighLine is able to produce these sheets in sizes up to 80″ x 120″. For customers needing significant quantities of the sheet we are able to produce and supply direct.
For customers needing smaller quantities and sizes we have partnered with a specialized safety products distributor based in the United States that maintains 1/8″ x 60″ x 80″ sheets of both colors in stock. They have fabrication facilities that allow them to cut to size. Therefore, they are able to turn around orders quickly to meet project deadlines.
