A government contract in the energy sector required clear polycarbonate sheet with a thickness of 0.80”. Normally sheet of this thickness can only be produced by compression molding with extrusion being limited to less than 0.60” thick. For this application compression molding was not an option as the sheet needed a very tight thickness tolerance and also be a monolithic construction.
HighLine was able to engage in a six-month development process with the customer to produce the sheet by the extrusion. The sheet was also annealed before supplying to the customer in order to reduce internal stresses.
